Iā€™m a Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI) with over twenty years of experience translating complex information into beautiful, scientifically accurate images.

My background

My training is specific to medical illustration. I studied both life sciences and visual communication at the Rochester Institute of Technology, with advanced education in anatomy at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. After working as an in-house medical illustrator at a few different companies, I started Laramie Studio in 2000.

Certification

The Association of Medical Illustrators maintains a certification program. As a Certified Medical Illustrator, I've passed exams in biomedical science, drawing skills, business practices, and ethics. My portfolio was rigorously reviewed, and I keep up my certification through regular continuing education. I have maintained this credential since 2002.

Additional Credentials and Memberships

Staying in touch with peers in both the medical and artistic communities is important to me. I'm a member of The Association of Medical Illustrators and the Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland.

I'm also a preferred vendor at Oregon Health & Science University. Because I'm familiar with OHSU's brand guidelines and I've worked as a vendor before, it's pretty quick to set up a new contract. Got an OHSU project that could benefit from medical illustration? Contact me

Ethics in Legal Cases

I'm bound by the ethical standards of the certifying board to represent the medical and scientific truth in all materials prepared for legal purposes.

HIPAA and Privacy

Because it's part of my job to use medical records for reference, I'm committed to being up on the federal regulations that govern health privacy. I've completed HIPAA training, and I'm prepared to store medical records securely.

If you have any questions about my credentials or certifications, don't hesitate to contact me.
